This activity is from the Glucksman’s Creativity at Home series and uses the work of Róisín Hahessy to inspire children of all ages. The activity is themed around creative education. Children are invited to look at Róisín’s image closely and answer questions including: What is happening in this picture? What does your school/classroom look like? What kind of things are the children are learning about? After this observation and discussion, they will draw their own imaginary classroom and then draw, cut and paste some classmates.
The Digital Image Guide (DIG) Method is a resource to help students critically evaluate images. The lesson typically takes a 60 minute class period but can be extended if you have additional time. Originally created by a librarian for other librarians, this teaching resource can be modified to fit most disciplines for most age ranges. Anywhere from 10-40 students/participants is ideal.
Every astronaut needs a spacesuit to keep them safe. With digital and multimedia resources provided, students will research the types of spacesuits astronauts need, and the features they include, then they will design their own suit. If resources are available, encourage children to use and discover a range of media to create their suit – pens, pencils, paint, crafts, foil, collage. Imagination is key!
